Default 11" Beard on Old TOM

He went down in a hury once the Remington Heavy Shot hit-em in the back of the head. My first turkey. Just started hunting them last year. Man what a rush. Not as good as hammering a buck with the bow, but close. Going to have a full strutter mount. The wife is thrilled about that Anybody else have any luck.

I had about 5 turkeys run out in front of my quad today. Could have shot one with my 357 but I didn't.
I still have a turkey frozen in the freezer that I didn't cook for Christmas.

Anyone ever see a turkey hide like a grouse? Last year, I witnessed a turkey drop to the ground and flop around like it was shot. Just to hide itself under the leaves and brush. I watched it do it and still could not find it in the thick brush. (when it was not shot but only wanted to hide.)

I start hunting this Friday. I went out lastnight and "put my birds to bed". I did it early so if I spooked anything, they would have a couple days to settle down and move back into the area. Been hearing talk of 100 birds to a flock in this area a few weeks back. This was before the Toms went into full strut. I'll be sure to be out there by 4:30 a.m. Friday. The birds have a tendency to hit the ground (fly down from the trees) by then.

It's amazing how large some of the flocks can get.
