Here's a short video of me using my X2 to help a buddy out. I had already pulled a few bigger ones out of the rough stuff before I remembered to shoot a video. YouTube - Skidder, skidder, I don't need no skidder

I’m one of the new/old kids on the site. Nice video. I’m not a logger but we do heat our house with wood so we do cut a little. (average 10 cords per year and maybe another 10 cords that we sell on the side)

For many years we pulled out our wood with tractors and we finally decided to buy our Sportsman 800 because they made less of a mess to the woods then the tractor and we could get around easier. Within a month, we soon realized how handy this was so we went out and purchased a used Sportsman 500 to pull the log splitter.

Between cutting wood, filling deer feeders, making new trails or checking fencing, it’s hard to be a wheeler.

I do 3-4 cord depending on how long/bad the winter is here in Northern Mass. Last winter wasn't too bad. Had one a few years ago that it snowed in early Dec. and that snow didn't melt until the middle of April. That was a 4 cord year. As they say, "When you heat with firewood you exercise 4 times. You cut the tree down, you cut it up, you split it, and you stack it."

A buddy of mine showed me that. Too bad it's kind of expensive. I was thinking of making a sled type log cradle at some point. I hate it when the butt end of the log gets stuck in the depressions or behind a rock or stump. Got a piece of sheet aluminum I might bend around a 2x8 shaped like a sled runner. I like the idea of the bar that the log sits in that keeps the log from sliding out. May incorporate that.

You forgot two more. Still need to fill the stove and later clean out the ashes. Heating with wood is like having a free membership to the gym. But there is nothing better then spending the day in the great outdoors.

This only works tho as long as there is a nice cold beverage (of the alcoholic type) in the end!

Yeah, that's true. We're getting into fall again this weekend once this storm goes out to sea. Love it in the 50s and 60s.
