Yes the 450's were designed to take the place of 2 stroke racing machines. They have slipper pistons engines that require allot of maintnence and build power in the higher rpm band thus making them less desirable for trail use. If You ride more open fire roads or track the 450's are a dream machine!

that really eases my mind on what to look for, because i love trail riding but i also like quickness in a machine when i can let her rip i want to, sound like the predator on my list...also i'm looking at a 04 artic cat dvx 400 for 1900$ any response to that machine, also any yamahas or hondas you reccommend...i thank you very much for your time

Don't know about the 07 Preddy, but I'd stay away from the 04 for track riding. Nephew had one and they weren't gentle on it. Broke a few air boxes when the rear end bottomed out on jumps, and they broke the frame. The air box I think was just a poor design. The frame, well you could give those guys a rock and they could give you back dust.
I think the lighter 400 with a few mods would be much better and still have no problem keeping up with the bigger 500.
Another plus is the availability of aftermarket parts on the z400 series.

I had a Honda 400ex for years and beat the crap out of that thing, never touched a thing other than changing oil and tighten up chain some. It is a very reliable machine especially for trail riding. I miss mine and would definately get one again.
