What type of riding do you do? Terrain? Jumps? Hillclimbs? What type of maintenance are you comfortable with? Budget?

There are lots to choose from. How much you want to spend is important. If you put a budget of say $2000 for instance, there are a lot of good quads in that price range. A Honda 400ex is a good choice. Probably going to be the least expensive of the higher performance sport quads but still packs a lot of fun in a reliable package. Suzuki Z400 and the Kawasaki KFX 400 are in about the same class as far as power and price go and they had reverse on all models, earlier models of the 400ex didn't have it. Yamaha Raptor 660 offers a bit more power for a little more money and reverse too. The 700 ups the power even more but also the price as well. If you want to spend a bit more the 450 class quads offer a bit more power but they require more maintenace too, such as the YFZ 450 and 450r.

As of riding im not sure, because i've never owned a quad, but I'd want something all rounded. Maintenance I'd prefer as least as possible, but its not tooo much of a big deal for me. and my budget is 5k as of now, however I'm willing to spend more. I'd prefer to spend the least amount possible, as im not gonna be racing im just trying to have fun. I do have experience with clutch i ride bikes.

Would look hard at the Raptor 700 then. 5k will buy a very clean example of pretty much any sport quad made and leave you with some cash for gear and upgrades if needed. Nothing wrong with the z400 triplets or the 400ex either, although they don't have the raw power of the 700, they are both great trail machines.
