Hey guys, just signed up. I think I will be hanging out here quite a bit.
I got into ATV's back in 1984, I was only 8 years old and my Dad noticed I was afraid of engine noises. He thought it would be good to get me riding to overcome my fear. He bought a brand new 84 Honda ATC 200M.
We had some fun on it but I was never really into ATV's until we moved and a boy who later became my best friend was quite excited to see that I had something we could ride together (he had an old RM80). Eventually when I was 14 I sold the 200M, it was still like new. I bought an 86 CR80 and got into dirt bikes for a short while. I missed having a three wheeler and even though my Dad was still mad at me for selling the 200M he agreed to buy me a used 83 ATC 250R.
The 250R was great, I am not sure how it didn't killed riding that thing, but somehow I survived. My friend got a four wheeler and I had to get one too, I eventually got an 88 Kawasaki Mojave. I didn't get to ride to too much though, and as soon as I was 16 I didn't care about ATV's and all I wanted was a fast car. I sold the Mojave to buy my first car but we kept the 250R.
I got out of ATV's for a long time, got married and started having kids and buying one was just not affordable. Eventually things got better and in 2009 I bought my first machine since 1992. I got a gorgeous 2003 Honda 400EX. This machine was very tastefully modified, looked awesome and ran like a top. I was not as nimble as I once was and I got into a couple accidents which kinda scared me. When I was a kid and got hurt it didn't really matter, but now I was an adult. The last accident I had before I sold the 400EX, I fractured a couple ribs and couldn't work for three days.
This year my son turned 13, man that makes me feel old. I really wanted something we could do together. I have so many fond memories of riding and camping with my friends when I was his age I thought I should make the investment into getting some machines. Buying two quads was just too much money, so we got some dirt bikes. I got a KX 125 and I bought my son an RM 85 for his 13th birthday. We did some riding but my son didn't take to dirt bikes the way I thought he would.
To keep things short, we acquired a 96 Yamaha Warrior this last fall which my son absolutely loves. I did some trail riding and remembered all the great times I had trail riding as a kid. So I am back on the ATV scene and looking for my first 4x4 quad.
