Welcome to the forums Dan! Questions need to be asked in the regular or expert section of the Polaris forums ,but I'll answer it here. May get moved by the moderators anyway.. Middle chain needs to be adjusted first as it's movement affects the front chain adjustment. Loosen the two 5/8" bolts at the center chain eccentric carrier located at the front of the floor board. You can try to install a small punch through the sprocket into the carrier hole and roll the machine backwards. This turns the eccentric which tightens the chain. OR you can lightly tap the "ears" at the top of the carrier(without breaking them) towards the rear and watch the chain as it tightens up. You want to have around 1/4" to 3/8" play in the middle of the chain. Then tighten the carrier bolts back down. As you tighten the center chain, the front chain loosens up. There's a 5/8" bolt at the top of the front eccentric carrier. Kinda hard to find as it's recessed down from the top. Loosen it,install a punch through the sprocket into the carrier, roll rearward,or just use a dull punch on the right side of the carrier hole and tap it rearward. It sets tighter than the center chain, 1/4",then tighten the 5/8" bolt.

Go to the top of the page and click on "ATVConnection.com ATV Enthusiast Community" then go down the list until you come to the Polaris regular forum or expert section. General questions about oil, filters, etc are best posted in the regular section. Repair questions in the expert section. Main thing is to not post in both sections on the same problem! Creates confusion with me,others and some for yourself.. Again welcome to the forums!

Thank you so much. I got all the way to the front chain bolt. It is rusted solid. I will find out if it can be replaced then hit it with a percussion drill. If it breaks I will replace it.

What is the danger of over tightening the chain?

Excessive bearing stress/wear in the eccentric housings would be the main thing if chains are too tight.
