Default 2002 Polaris sportsman 700

I have the chance to purchase a 2002 sportsman 700 with 139 hours and 439 miles. Owner said it was garage kept and well maintained and looked new. I got him down to 2800 if it is what he says it is. Is this a good deal?

Welcome to the forums.. Sounds like a putter or he's afraid of it. Miles divided by hours average a tad over 3 mph.. He's asking top dollar as far as KBB list Kelley Blue Book But if condition is good, may be worth it. ONE problem though is the ignition on many of these machines have failed. They used a Ducati ignition system which is junk,no other words to describe it. It's not a matter of if it goes out,but when. The cure to this is a Kokusan update kit that included the stator, flywheel, cdi, coil, regulator, jumper wires and instructions. Kit runs a little over 500 bucks on average! You might use this as a negotiating point..You might google "Sportsman 700 ignition problems" and look at all the posts on this, plus look over this video as to what the kit involves and how to install it.

Default Thanks for getting back to me

I am a first time buyer but have been riding awhile. Looking for a good Polaris for no more than 4500, which I found a 2008 Polaris 800 h.o with 96 hours. Just looking for suggestions. Other than the possible ignition problem, sounds like a good price on a very lightly used atv. That's what I paid for my Grizzly earlier this year and although it is newer, it had about 3000 miles on it when I bought it. I did look at a Sportsman 700 at a local dealer, it was a 2004 I believe and had efi. It was about the same price but had many more miles on it, almost 5000 I believe and I just passed on it as it looked pretty rough. If it had mileage similar to this one and obviously much better condion, I most certainly would have bought it.
