Default 05 sportsman reverse issues. Need help

I have a 2005 sportsman 500. The speedo is messed up and I have read how to by pass to get the AWD to work. I was wondering if the speedo would have anything to do with a terrible grinding noise when in reverse. Any and all help appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Speedo wouldn't have anything to do with grinding noise. You don't say where the noise is from, but if it's coming from the front housing area the most common problem was the plastic roll cages cracking causing problems. Billet aluminum roll cages are available to solve this.2004 06 Polaris Sportsman Ranger 500 Aluminum Differential Roll Cage Sprague | eBay

Not saying that it couldn't be a transmission problem, but these things are close to being bullet proof if reasonably taken care of. You might check the prop shaft and rear drive shafts first for any damage to u joins or cv joints. Could be the noise you're hearing? One way you might be able to tell is to jack all 4 tires up and check things over from front to rear.
