Hello from Alberta

New to the forum, new to ATV ownership, new to the whole business of buying used equipment. I guess I'll use the search function to find some answers then post my questions when I need to.
I'm looking for used that will be used to plow snow and (more important) maintain my driveway and yard so power at low speed is a must.
I'm thinking of buying an ABI Gravel Rascal and they suggest 350cc (the sales Guy) and 550cc (the brochure) so, so far I am looking at a Honda Foreman 400 and a Kawasaki Brute force 650, a couple friends both have Yamahas but they are used to get around the farm or hunting and I will do neither (at least I'm not inclined to but that might change if I decide to hunt with my daughter in law)
Cheers

Welcome aboard....you will find numerous opinions on the different brands but allow me to give you a general opinion. Most of the popular brands are well built and reliable if properly taken care and maintained. I would also recommend an automatic machine for heavy pulling power as they normally have a much higher tow rating. For an automatic you want a CVT drive which uses a belt, belts are cheap compared to rebuilding a transmission. The Honda machines are good but do stay away from the electric shift models as they have had their share of issues. For serious towing and low speed grunt you may want to go with a liquid cooled machine, air cooled machines are great but tend to get hot with low speed heavy towing in warmer weather. In winter they would be fine but summer use could be an issue. Once you find your machine you will also find many more uses for it or at least more excuses to go use it !! LOL.. Good luck on your search and please keep us posted on what you find.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
I have bought, or will have come Wednesday, a 660 Yamaha Grizzly, which I think meets the above criteria. My Son told me to stop overthinking it and just buy something. So I did. 6500km and as far as I remember, mid 700hrs. Its a 2002

Got it home last night. We were debating how to get it home (I have a cargo trailer, but we would need to have removed the plow) when it occurred to me I have a 97 Chev long box dually, duh!
Slid right in with a half inch to spare either side of the plow.

Welcome from Colorado. There are a whole lot of quad ATVs that serve as small "tractors" as opposed to recreational vehicles. The Grizzly is a popular model here in Colorado. I think you got good advice about the CVT and the water cooled engine. Both will serve you well.
