Hi gang I am kap1. Just acquired the above ATV as a project for myself. Not in good shape to begin with but the motor and transmission does it's thing as it should. Not only is the Yamaha new to me but I am new to ATV's which will help too (I bet). Now have a repair manual on order and the general clean up begins to see what is where and if it's broken or not and if it's just plain missing.

I will be needing guidance from more experienced Yamaha Big Bear owners and yes look out a bunch of "dumb" questions will come from this end.

Welcome! I too recently picked up a '98 Big Bear and I'm looking far and wide on ed everything I can do to increase power. Kind of wishing I had looked for a 10 speed Big Bear instead as I didn't realize it would make that big of a difference.
