650 race ??

Do you guys recomend being in 4wd or 2wd in a race. I know the traction is much better in 4wd but I have never compared top speed between the two. Also I here alot of talk of wheelies, my bike will spin the hell out of the tires and leave black marks on the pavement but barely raise the front end. I could understand this on loose terain but pavement?? It is in the shop now to have the belt checked, but other than that Im at a loss. My new holeshot module should be here next week maybe this will change things. But it will probably just spin more.

I don't race a whole lot, but when I do, I always use 2 wheel drive. I figure that it takes power to spin the front driveshaft that would be wasted once the rear tires do hook up. Just my thoughts, like I said, I don't race much.
As far as wheelies go, when mine was basically stock, it didn't wheelie without putting some effort into it. Open up the exhaust (Nyroc mod, cheap and sounds good too!), intake(Diamond G snorkle or NAPA hose), aftermarket aircleaner and rejet the carbs, and you will be surprised how easy the front end comes up.
Or you could just buy one of the Holeshot modules, and it sounds like you will have a hard time keeping the front end down! They cost $100, and take 30 minutes to install.

Thanks for the info guys, I found the tire traction problem and almost ashamed to say what it was. The problem was I trusted the shop that installed my tires would set the air pressure correctly. After letting 20 pounds of air out of the tires It hooks up like a different bike. In low it now pulls the front way up (on pavement.) The dealer had the tires set at 25 pounds!! All I can figure is he set the bead and never relieved the pressure. I feel pretty stupid for that one, that should have been the very first thing i checked, but ASSumed the dealer did it right.

My stealer put 30 lbs in my Gators when he mounted them. I freaked out when I saw them! They were about 3 inches taller and 3 inches narrower than before. Let the air out before the first ride and it was all good! Gotta watch those people.

63 in 2wd, 63 in 4wd. Physics says you should be running slower, but since we're currently power limited by CDI and not the actual engine, it will pull to the same point until the CDI shuts it down. Better launch in 4wd tho'.

Good point, I would have thought you would be slower in 2wd as well, I had a chance to try it over the weekend with the very same results, 63 in both directions in both 2wd and 4wd. That has to be the CDI doing this since that was my top speed with 25 pounds of pressure in 2wd last time.
