what is jetting?
#1
I am new to atv modding. We are about to order hmf dual exhaust for the new v-force. I was wondering what it is that you guys keep talking about when you say to upgrade the jets? Is this like a fuel injector? Any info would be great

jetting is what you do to your carbs after any mods that would affect your engine output. jetting is the amount of oxygen to gas ratio entered into your motor. am i close here guys? this is what i understand of it anyway

Jetting adjust the air/fuel ratio, If you increase the airflow and not the fuel flow this is what is called running lean, so then you need to put larger fuel jets in the carb to compensate for this lean condition. On fuel injection systems they have an O2 sensor and computer that does this automaticly, so you only have to change the fuel injectors if you have increased the intake and exhaust to the point that the stock injectors are no longer capable of the output required (also helps the duty cycle) But thats a different topic in itself. In a car the air/fuel ratio is best around 14.7/1 this is optimum combustion mix, on the bike it is probably pretty much the same, you also have to adjust for altitude, the higher the elevation the thinner the air.
