Another cheap mod
#1
Ok we all know that a cooler engine is a more efficient engine, and the cooler the air in the engine, the more power it makes. Most test show about 1 HP for every 10 degrees F cooler. One way to acheive this is to get whats called (cool tape) or another brand like it (its a heat reflective type tape) Wrap the snorkle and airbox. This will help keep the heat from the radiator and the engine from heating and expanding the air before it enters the engine. Another would be an additive in the radiator such as (water wetter) This additive mostly just takes the air bubbles out of the coolant but it does work. Probably the biggest gain in heat control would be to ceramic coat the exhaust. (also the most expensive) Some people use an exhaust wrap but I have found that this can cause hot spots and burn a hole through the pipe. These mods arent the type that will show a night and day power gain, but will help in both performance and fuel mileage (If that was ever a concern) I have even tried (dry Ice) in the airbox of my corvette. It seemed to help but didnt get any timeslips to proove that one yet. Just some more things to think about as summer draws near. (dont try the dry Ice in the quad yet until I do a little more research) It is alot shorter distance from the airbox to the carbs in a quad. Its only something to do if your in a big race anyway. I can keep you posted on that one. Hope this is food for thought.
