P650 outer CV boots
#1
I just had all my CV boots replaced with new heavy-duty boots. It seems that there is grease oozing out of the outer boots by the wheel (the reason I originally replaced them--I thought they were torn but they weren't). My mechanic said that he had a hard time getting the clamp tight on the far outer side. What type of clamps are the right ones. I used eurpean hose clamps with the rolled up edges for the inner, they work fine, for the outer there is a clearance problem so you have to use the strap type but these suck, they're difficult to get tight. Any ideas--has anyone had to change theirs in the past? I'd rather do it myself this time (shoulda done it last time but taking the axle shaft out etc. scared me). I also may have to re-pack them because I've lost so much grease..

I did this job on my 500i last weekend, its not that hard once you do it once and its hard to break anything. Just make sure you keep all the parts you take out. I used a different style of clamp on my boots, the stock ones were punched on. The ones I got with the new boot had 2 notches that the band would latch onto. It was very hard to put on but very tight. The other clamps you describe seem to have worked great in the past for me.
