P650- New belt, black spring, 200 miles and squeekin again>>
#1
the topic sums this up. I got a new belt and a black spring and rode 200 miles and now the belt is sqeekin at takeoff again. Is this a shim problem now?? To remove the shims do I just take appart the secondary like normal when I put in the black spring? I never actually separated the seconday. So do I just pull out the 4 pucks and it comes appart or is there another special tool for that? Any help appreciated

Yep just pull out the pucks and then separate the sheave halves. Spacers will be between the two halves. Check your belt deflection first. If I remember each .1mm of shim equals about a 1/16th of an inch deflection. So if you have 1.5 inches of deflection and you take out the .6mm shim then your deflection should go to about 1 1/8th inches.
Mark the outside of each sheave half before you take em apart so that they can be reassembled in the same orientation.
Nyroc's site has a much better description and pictures to illustrate this procedure.

Yep, the belt is too loose. The technician that installed the new belt may NOT have set up the deflection correctly, OR the new belt stretched a bunch. The belt stretch is unlikely. Another thing that saves on belt/pulley wear is: Run the bike in "LOW" range for tight woods riding. I keep mine in low, when running consistently under 20 MPH. I should get about 3K miles out of my original belt. I have 2K miles on it now. From experience, I would say that you will need a .6MM THINNER shim than is in your driven pulley now. GOOD LUCK!
