Default Belt deflection question

I have noticed my belt starting to slip more and more. I have about 25 hrs and 300 km's on my new '02 Kawi. I have measured the deflection and it is out of spec from what I can tell. I measured it to be just under 1.25" Does this sound like it could be possible? I didn't have a ruler but I did use a short straight pipe. If you think this measurement is to far out of wack tell me and I will have to measure it with a ruler I guess.

I looked at the deflection adjustment section in the service manual and Nyroc's website but I don't have all the proper tools to do the job right now. I'm wondering if I did get the black spring would I still need to adjust the deflection? Will the black spring make the belt tighter? Or will I still have to adjust the deflection?

I plan on putting my outlaws on this week so I will need the black spring. The way it is now is totally driveable and only slips for like .5 seconds every now and again during take off or on off-cambers.

Any other info you may need to help me or any info anyone can provide will be appreacticed. Thanks guys.

Get your deflection back to spec as soon as you can. The black spring won't help with your deflection problem. It puts more pressure on your driven clutch to grip the belt tighter, but if your belt is loose, it's gonna start to slip, and if it slips, it's wearing your clutch and your belt. Your deflection should be about 7/8 of an inch. Get it adjusted as soon as possible.

Brent,

Your still going to have to adjust the deflection even after adding the black spring. My advice would be to get an accurate measurement before taking the rear clutch off. Then you can remove the needed shim, replace the driven spring and reinstall the clutch all in one session. If you continue to run the belt loose you will reduce your belt life and run the chance of scoring the clutch face from the belt slipping. The tool from nyrocs site is fairly easy to make, not that expensive and will pay for itself the first time you use it.

I guess I won't drive my P650 anymore till its tightned. I will order the spring tomorrow and will do both at the same time. Thanks guys.

EDIT: How much does the belt have to slip for it to scorn the clutch? I hope you didn't think I said 5 seconds of slipping, .5 (half a second) of slipping is the norm right now. I'm 99% sure I haven't scorned my clutch but I just wonder how much slipping would need to occur before it was scorned?

I think your fine. I'm sure everyone has had a belt slip from time to time. It's constant abuse due to a slipping belt that will score the sheaves. Adjust the deflection, add the spring and you should be good to go.
