Holeshot module (my results)
#1
It took a while but I had the chance to spend the day with the module and here is my conclusion.
When I first installed it not knowing just what to expect I made it switchable so I could turn it off when I wanted. I put the bike on flat land and gradually gave it gas (expecting a jerk) it felt normal. So I decided the switch was turned off, fliped the switch and went again, still felt normal. So by now Im on the pavement nailing the gas up and down the street. I check the wires with the multimeter everything looks good. So I take off the switch and wire it direct, still no real change. About an hour later no longer thinking about the module Im in a grassy field in high gear and take off from a dead stop. The front tires go straight up and I let off out of shock then I try again, same result except I was ready for it this time.
I dont know what the delayed reaction was all about since I dont beleve the CDI has a learned memory like an ECM in a car. My thoughts on the module are: It makes the quad pull in high just a bit better than it did before in low. Low gear has about the same gains. Keep in mind I really dont have many mods other than this, the Black spring and some tinkering here and there. So I didnt see any of the 20 mph wheelies Im sure If you have more mods you will feel bigger gains. My overall opinion on a basicly stock prairie is It is not quite what it was hyped up to be, but it is a good improvement. Is it worth the $$$ I would say yes just dont think its going to act like a nitrous shot and you wont be disappointed. It does not seem to be too touchy or real jerky so dont be nervous with it. I imagine results will differ from bike to bike but these were mine. The gain was alot like a lower set of gears without the topend loss. Hope this helps for the people considering.

I talked to the guy that sells these and he said it was designed in a way to boost the lower end in way that was safe for normal riding. When you really ask for it, you get it, but you don't want to pull the front end up everytime you give it a little gas or take off slowly. He said the main advantage is from a dead stop with hard throttle applied, i.e. the name "Holeshot". It was thought that these conditions only happen when called for, as opposed to taking off at a slow pace intentionally. That way it gives you the extra power without creating a hazard for normal riding. He said it took a lot of tricks to make it so there was no effect on top end, and this took a lot of time and money for R&D. Keep up the good work D.G.!

I would have to agree with you rivermud, when i hooked up the module and took it for a spin, I was expecting the bike to flip over backwards. I believe it was hyped up beyond what you thought to expect. I too went over my wiring several times to make sure it was correct, i didnt use a voltage meter because I eventually came to the conclusion that if it was not hooked up properly the bike would not run correctly. Dont get me wrong its an improvement over the premodule 650 but its not a wholly s%#t experience, you definitely do not need a switch with this mod. It is worth buying if you want that extra umph on the bottom end.

I had the same results. I was expecting it to be uncontrollable, the way some were describing it i the forums. It does provide a substantial low end boost but you do not need a switch or to be strongly cautioned about it. I am able to spin all 4 of my 28" 589s with it in 4wd on pavement. I am also using it with the red and black springs.

Getting traction with the module is the biggest challege. Try nailing it on blacktop or grass and you'll be suprised at the difference. I also find that it works better after the bike and module get hotter. That may sound funny or maybe just it's just my imagination but the bike does seem to be stronger after a 1/2 hr run than when first started. This also applies to shutting it off for 10 or 15 mins or so. Always works better for me after a short bit of use. Also, I think there may be a bit of difference between manufacturers, maybe different frequencies create different results. Just a quess though, I don't know that for sure.

If I'm thinking right doesn't this module keep the timing advanced, not allowing the stock CDI to retard the timing in the mid/upper range??
If that were true, I would think you would need to run alittle higher octain when adding this module. it could be a case of detonation when you start getting into the upper RPM ranges. Just a guess.
