Great results for the 650 at the ATV pulls today
Our local club had a pull today, with the Prairie 650's coming in first, second, third and fourth!!! I was the lucky one in first place and another forum member, 650forme, came in second. How many people on the forum have pulled their machines? How did you do? Any stories to relate? Great job!
didn't pull this weekend (motor out) but I went to Centerville, Ca and watched a pull. Last time we pulled in Centerville, we won and was politely ask not to come back. We won by so much, they though we were cheating, how do you cheat in an open class, where anything goes.
Sorry, but the American bikes took everything this weekend. These were all guys that pull in our club.
Scott, congrads on the win, now you know why we use P650. the torque is unreal.
Now lighten that clutch and put some distance between you and second place.

We just use the factory hitch, or a slightly higher version of it, with a height limit. We have cc limits, and a maximum weight per class. We tried something different this year - we weighed all the machines and riders on a set of scales. We then added 50lb sandbags to the racks of the quads to bring everyone up to the weight of the heaviest machine/rider combo in the class. The sandbags were distributed evenly between the front and back of the machines. I know this sounds crude to the guys that use weight racks to hold the extra weight, but it allows the guys that can't afford/don't want to bother building something more elaborate to take part in a pull.
The evening out of weight was the great equalizer - last year the heaviest guys on the heaviest machines would win. When the weight was kept equal, the cream rose to the top!

The pull that I have are run by both cc's and weight, plus two and four wheel drive. an example of the 4x4 classes would be.
1000 lb class 1-400
1000 lb class 401-500
1000 lb class 501 and up
we have the same cc's as above in the 1100 lb and we have an 12oo lb open class were any size cc can pull.
Any bike can go up classes and none can go down.
As far as the hitch, there are all types, from factory to home made. I use a RB hitch, which is hooked where the bottom of the shock is bolted. this hitch has a bolt in it that can adjust the height, to the maxinum height allowed by the rules. tire pressure and add weight changes the height and is really important to be at maxinum height. The higher the hitch the more your picking up on the plate and more weight your putting on the back wheels.
The hitch I use is made so that the harder you pull, it trys to swing back, the more down pressure you put on the front tires, producing extra traction.

Thanks for the info NovaKaw.
I pulled a 500 HO Polaris once .... in a Polaris dealer sponsered pull. All machines were
grouped by CC's. Some of the quads had very heavy homemade racks. As you might
guess.... the heavest machines won.
I would guess that the Polaris type hitch ( on the frame ) would have an advantage over
an axle mounted hitch ??
I have thought about taking my P650 back to the Polaris pull...... deciding against it thinking
that the heavy Polaris machines would have too much weight advantage.

I pulled my 650 for the very 1st time just last weekend. We had a blast too. They broke up the classes in 2x4 and 4x4 with a maximum weight of 1050lbs for the 4x4 class with the rider aboard. We all had 30 min to make maximum weight before the pulls started. I weighed in at 1016lbs with me and quad and a few weights added. Some guys were really obsessive about hitting that 1050 mark that they kept adding weights till they were right on.I just figured since it was my 1st time,1016 was good enough. Well to make a long story short, i took 1st place with a pull of 196'6" ! Second place was a sportsman with a pull of 181'6" . My buddy got third place on his Grizzly with a pull of 180' even. It was a blast to try something different and I am sure I will do it again.
