Default yet another jetting question?

I have a 700 prarie and I did the nyroc Exhaust mod (6 3/8 holes and spark arrestor gone) and then it hesitated off idle on acceleration. Well with the advice i got from people on this forum I went up a jet size in each carb (145/ 140) The power is noticeably improved so thanks everyone. But my question is should I mess with the pilot screws or anything else? I am new to jetting and was wondering where a good spot to start would be if i did crank on the pilot screw? Any help would be appreciated.

If you haven't all ready i would recommend getting a performance filter that lets more air in..... if you did nyroc's exaust mod your leting more air out now you need to take more air in.

As far as the air screws go i would just leave them be if it runs ok. If you really wanna adjust them then do as stakk recommended awhile ago.......... first ride your machine tell the fan kicks on at least once. Put it in neutral and with it running start with the front air screw and turn it counter clockwise tell it starts running funny (coughs, sputters, chokes, etc.)then turn it back clockwise tell it idles up and runs normal turn it 1/4 to 1/2 a turn more clockwise and leave it.......do the same with the other air screw. This is what i did with mine and it runs great at low and high alt. now. Thanks stakk.

26yearoldbeginner, your screen name is kinda long.

Also, your needles are probably lean. Shim them out about .04" to .07", or get a jet kit. Mains might be lean too. You should check it or just try one size richer and then check it.

Only go0d dealers that know how to tune carbs have them. Otherwise go to a nut and bold store and look for super small washers. Take needle and holder with you. Might find them at radio shack.

Default yet another jetting question?

when is the best time to check the plug? after a normal run around the yard or should she take a semi hard run down the road then kill the switch? thanks for the info on the air adj. I have check the plug after idle and they have a little black on them . I've put one shim under the needls and went with larger jets k&n modded muffler and there still black???????. That why i feel like i'am checking the plug at the wrong time. It's run so much better after these changes no more sputtering at idle, bu it seems to have lost a little at top end. Thank i know you guys have so much hlep? I think that me and 26y/o beginner have alot in common so hopefully you will be killing two birds with one stone. LOL

Default yet another jetting question?

When i check my plugs i take it for a good long ride.... not around the yard or down the street. I usually check them after i get back from a trip or an all day ride. That way you have a chance to ride in low and high gear and let the machine do it's work. If you went to a larger jet and put shims under your needles you are letting more fuel in and there for you might be running a little rich. (Black plugs) I would leave the shims in and rejet one size smaller.

Ex. When i got my machine it was jetted 132 front and 138 rear. I rejeted to a 135 front and 140 rear. (Had twin air filter on and nyroc's exaust mod.) I was running just a little rich (light black plugs) so i rejeted back to my stock setting.... 132 F 138 R haven't run my bike enough yet to check plugs and see where i am at..... if i am to lean(white or real light tan plug) i will most likely put some shims under my needles.

hope this helps

Default yet another jetting question?

i have a question along the lines of this.... im planning on checking my plugs today to see how i am running, my question is should i check both plugs (looks like the rear plug will take some doing to get to) or can i just check the front? my jetting is still stock but i just got my twin air filter and i plan on putting the DG snorkel on and i am wondering if im gonna have to rejet after i do that. thanks

I know its a pain in the butt. I would check both of them due to the fact that each plug has it's own carb. su therefore they will performe different.
