Whats the point of having an ATV license plate??
Here in Ontario we're supposed to have it to drive on public logging roads and the TransCanada pipeline. I have one because of one hero cop out by my uncle's camp, other than him, noone seems to care.
I suspect it's just a cash grab by the GD government.

Here in ND, It lets us ride along state highways in the ditches to the left of the highway and access to the snowmobile trails throughout the year. Its alos supposed to provide funding for staet parks and upgrades to the trail systems. Plus it gives the complainers numbers to write down so the five-o can track ya down

The US Forest Service here in NM reqiures all off-road vehicles to display the license plate while riding on All US Forest Service Public Lands BUT so far, the USFS does not enforce the license plate rule. That may be changing soon, as more & more 4wheelers are becoming to be a problem in some areas of the Jemez Ranger District & I am sure in the other US Forest Districts too.
Also has someone else said, if you have your plate on & if you are riding in a closed area, then it makes it easier for someone to turn you in.
I too ride in Colorado & by having my NM license plate mounted to the rear rack, I have never had any problems with the Forest Service Rangers & BLM Rangers in Colorado & believe me, the Colorado FS Rangers & BLM Rangers will stop you & check for your off-road permit or if you are using a out-of-state license plate, you better have your registration papers & a current up-to-date license tag.
At least here in NM our license plate tags are valid for 3 years on our 4wheelers.
