Default Tools for changing springs "black springs"

I have inquired to my dealer about some of the tools used for changing the belt, adding different springs, etc... What I am wondering is; Are these required, or is there some suitable substatute. I don't want to drop huges amounts of cash on specialized tools, if I can go out to the garage and grab a screwdriver and do the same thing. I have a 02' Praire650 and want to modify it a bit. From what I am seeing out there, alot can be done. Right now it's stock, but that will change soon.

Thanks for any info

to change the driven spring I use a piece of all-thread and a piece of bar stock. but there are a few ways to do it. Look at Nyroc's web site to get more info.
