Heat Shield for Dual Pipes on Vforce?
#1
I ordered a Dual HMF exahaust system for my V-Force. I noticed that my stock exhaust has a heat shield between it and the gas tank. When I install the HMF's I will no longer have the shield, should that concern me? It does get rather hot and is sitting inches from a plastic container full of flameable liquid.
Also have any of you got burned on the leg with the Dual system? With my stock set up I can definately feel the heat from the shield on my leg after about an hours worth of riding. Is it worse or better with the duals and should I consider installing the stock shield on the HMF's.
Thanks for your help and any hints on jetting it out at higher elevations (4,400) would be appreciated. I have read anything from the 140's clear down to the 120's. I guess I will just have to play swap the jet.
good riding!

I know one fellow that put the stock shield and installed it on his HMF unit.
I have not done that ......... and yes there is some heat and if your pants leg gets
against it, it will burn the material. I don't notice it with any amount of wheel
speed.
The most noticable is when I am doing what I call "bicycling" .... on the right two wheels.
low speed, pants material natually wants to fall against the pipe.
I have not noticed any ill effects at the gas tank area.

I notice a lot more heat with the HMF's, and I am looking for something to protect the leg. One new set of riding pants already lost the battle with the pipe. I am not really concerned with the tank. The plastic would warp or discolor if there was to much heat there, and I have seen none. For me it is just to hot for the leg.
