Default Boring out the LAKOTA

How many have done this? I am very interested in providing my wife with some more power between her legs.................

What kind of gains are there to be had? Is there a top end cam for the Lakota to help out the mid to top? It has plenty of low end as it is, but lacks power on the top, for open riding.

All info and specifics would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
"TOID"

And is there a bigger carb than the stock 32mm that can be picked up from another bike to fit the Kota? Or is there any gain to be had with a bigger carb.......... along with the bore, hc piston, and possibly a cam?

Your best bet will get ahold of mickey dunlap,he has a 330 kit for it that comes with piston,rings,carb,etc...This kit runs for around $300.

Thanks Clover! I didn't know that Mickey messed with the Kota at all. Do you happen to know if there is a hotter cam for it by chance?

Anyone else that has personally increased their power on the Lakota? Fill me in on what your particular mods are/were and any other experiences that could be helpful..................

well mahnster i am not sure on the mojave. In a old issue of dirtwheels they did a test of the mojave and lakota with 350 stroker kits, with alot of power.Them kits went for around $645,i'm not sure if they still are,you need to give mickey a call at fst.As for the cam i am not sure, but in the test they had a high lifter cam and valve springs for 2-3 hundred. The 350 kits look awesome with alot of power, the lakota went from around 16hp to 35hp.

hey eRaptoid,
There used to be this guy Gaff on this forum that really knows the lakota inside out. Unfortunately he sold it and I don't know if he still visits. I suggest you try to send him a private message to see if he responds. If not, I read over an email he sent me to give me tips on the lakota. He put in a mojave 34mm carb and bought the 330kit and high compression pistons from Mickey Dunlap. This is all the info I can give you other than the other small mods everyone else seems to have. Good luck with any other mods and let us know if you figure something out. I'm sure all us lakota owners would like the tips.

I just recently bored out my lakota .50 over with a wiesco piston and shaved the head. I did all the tearing down and installing the new parts myself. its a pretty easy job just time consuming, but it was well worth the wait the engine has a lot more power than it did.
