Hello. I'm new to the board, which looks like it kicks. Anyway, I have had a 1990 Mojave 250 for about 9 months now. The guy I got it from gave me all of the service records and it seemed like it was in good shape. I rode it this summer and everything was great with it. I went to change the oil and filter and I about had a heart attack when I saw all of these metal flakes in the filter. Is this normal? It runs great and has had no problems.

Thanks for any help.

Well some metal flakes are normal just the internal parts are rubbing a little. On my quad you usuallly just have to take paper towel and clean the filter hole out and thats all.

I noticed the same thing while changing the oil deep into the break-in period for my Bayou 220. I have not noticed anything unusal during subsequent oil changes. Still, I'm not sure you have a problem. My Bayou has an internal filter screen that catches such metal fragments so that they don't end up in the oil filter.

Yeah, they are pretty small specs, but it just seemed to me that they were an awful lot of them. I guess just seeing metal in the filter freaked me out.
