My Mojave is paid for, in awesome shape but I wouldn't mind it being wider, longer and having more and better travel. I figure that A-arms, swingarm and works shocks will run about $2000. Would it be better to just sell the Mojave, probably go for around $2500, and pay another $3200 for a new KXF/Z 400 or mod the Mojave? I ride tight trails so power isn't really an issue for me. The Mojave, while only a 250, gets around pretty well since it revs out so far and has power midrange on up.

The deliemma, build something cool (to me) that will do what I want or just buy a new, stock Z400? I realize that I'm never going to see the $2000 again if I put it into the Mojave. But I'd be approximately right at the same cost as a new Z400 figuring the Mojave was $4000 new plus $2000 equals $6,000.

 

Definetely get the KFX over modding the Mojave. No offense to Mojave's at all, but like my grandma used to say, "You can put a dress on pig but it will still be a pig"....see what I'm sayin?

 

I agree that the KXF is nicer, plus it is lighter than a stock Mojave. I've already stripped some crap off mine so it is now the same weight even with my new tires. I'm not unhappy with my Mojave, I'd just like more suspension and handling. I'm looking at this from the perspective that my 1987 technology isn't all that different than 2003 technology. Seems like for $2000 I'd have a quad that would handle and ride similar to a 2003 Z400 or 400EX. I'd still not have the power, but I think I'd have a better ride and similar handling for the same price as a new Z400.

 

well the best thing to save money would put some wheel spacers on for around $200,the wheel spacers are good for trail riding etc...But if you do some jumps it isn't to good.Yes the mojave can hang with a kfx in the woods and when it gets tight it can beat it.

 

hmm. if i were you i would get a bike. i jsut pefer them. i still, and always will, love mojaves.

Actually I'm a triple threat, I've got the quad, a dirt bike (KDX) and a snowmachine MXZx 440. It's because of my expensive hobbies and major life changing events (baby) that I'm considering modding my Mojave rather than waiting and saving to buy new.

Not to insult anyone but I don't see an overwhelming amount of new technology in the new generation of sport quads. Don't get me wrong, all the new quads are nicer than my 1987 style Mojave, but its not like I'd be losing out on IFS or super light weight or anything. That's what brought me to this line of thinking. My Mojave has liquid cooling, a semi modern engine, reverse and a strong frame. If it were longer, wider and had better shocks then shoot, it wouldn't be THAT much different then a KXF.

I'm not a fan of spacers. I jump quite a bit and weigh close to 200lbs so I'd be asking for trouble.
