V-Force Testing --complete-- UPDATE 09/07/03

I agree the only way to get accurate results from each mod would be to not wheelie at all or a wheelie bar. I think if i would start on gravel with full tire spin and progress onto pavement it would help alot. It does feel faster overall with all my mods, its easy to see against the Z400, I can come from behind and pass him now, before I would stay even. Its also easier to wheelie.
Each mod didn't give me an overall increase in power feeling, the increase is so minimal with these heavy weight low power quads. With all the mods its easier to see the power increase. If I was in a wheelie free environment then it would be alot easier to see what each mod did. I also think my inexperience dragging my V-700 shows. We did timed runs first on the blue spring and then the plain spring and the stock spring is slower overall even though I learned alot after just 3 runs on the blue spring. I think the blue spring helped more than the weights, its all hard to tell.
The weights I think are 58 grams, the stockers I think are 60 grams.
I can't wait to try the 20" radials off the z400, I think I will have faster times with them and a nice ride, also less dead weight. I will report on the tire exchange when it happens, I will try to get some timed runs and drag race comparision with the Z400 with my 22" XCR's on it.
I will try to weigh both quads also.

Brent... thanks for posting your tests... even though I don't have a V Force, I'm still very interested in the test results, as the Prairies & V Forces are similar in drive train components...
the use of limiting straps will help alot on take offs, & will eliminate the need to replace the front shocks with tubing...
perhaps it's because of my size, or because I ride a "slow old '02 650", but I can limit the wheeling of my quad alot, by putting my chest on the handlebars... however to get the best results, the conditions must be as close to the same, for each variable, & I commend you on trying to post honest scientifically produced results...
I didn't see an 1/8 mile speed with out the modifications... just curious if there was ( or how much of an increase there was )...
I love the sound of my exhaust, but it was definately the most expensive modification I've made to my quad, & probably made the least, actual performance gain...
my custom clutch weights will be produced within the next few weeks... they will be totally adjustable as to weight & "weight profile", & the test units will be made in 3 different ramp curves... I will need to patent the weight design before I talk about them much more, but DWB & I should be able to test them out later, if he is interested... but top speed gains will most likely be most noticed with a different ingnition ( CDI ), or a "tuned gear ratio advantage", that would come from fully using the available diameters of the primary & secondary clutches...
Thanks for the info...WAM

It seems according to your test that the plain spring with weights is the way to go. Lowest times and all. The only thing that came close was the full blue/weights with pipes and TPI Valve. Did you do a run with the Pipes and such with the plain/weights set up? May operate differently with the pipes compared to the blue but just curious.

mtecate4g:
The reason the plain spring and weights are the fastest is because of the wheelie and my inexperience with dragging. The more power the more you wheelie which I was doing when i added mod after mod. It was getting easier to wheelie.
newbeatle:
I never did a 1/8th of a mile run without mods, I wish I did because the longer distance would show what each mod is doing better. I think my distance was to short. I really do not want to yank the exhaust and all my mods and rerun the tests at a longer distance, way to much work.

cam650, you put the tie down on the grab bar to the swingarm on the rear. You have to have the strap as tight as you can get it to keep the front end down. On the front it, depends on the type of quad.

There doesn't appear to be a really good place to put a strap on the V on the front. The guy that I saw try the aluminum tubing said with the pins it was a pretty quick change. I think I will try a set. Looks easy enough. I have Duncan exhaust on the way and the plain primary spring. If I can keep the front down I will definitely get some respect from the modded raptors around my neighborhood. What hurts me, is the most popular place to race around here is an eighth- mile straight on pavement.

i'd like to hear about that duncan exhaust when you get it. right now i'm torn between duncan and yoshi. also wondering if trinity is going to make something for us or not?
do you know anything about the duncan already, like know someone with it or something? or did you just want to try something different? thanx-Sean
