Like trx450 said, I think you had other problems before the bearing, rings, and piston skirt.

trx450,
Suppose to have have new choke cable and springs replaced 2 summers ago by kawi dealer. Did flood out once and took it in for the new choke parts. Called the mechanic today. Asked him to check and make sure the last mechanic there change the choke parts as he said he did.

The choke problem has been their from day one , but kawi didnt recall the 650 for repairs. Mine would flood out the engine overnight and fill the crankcase. I also believe some springs /cable just overfueled the cylinder. the worse case is the overfueling. it washes down the cylinder a little at a time until the end result is piston failure. The amazing part is that every 650 for 2002 has the problem, some are noticeable and some not. the moral of the story is will kawasaki repair these engine failures and repair the choke problems, i don't think so, and i didn't get my choke recall yet. All the manufactures are slack about recalls after all , you are paying the bill $$.

I believe that you can search the recalls at: www.buykawasaki.com

It's inteteresting that you weren't missing power because when my front piston went I never notice a power difference at all. Now when my engine (mainly the front cylinder) went I never heard any weird noises but I couldn't start it easly but when I got it going it went fine. It's nice that they covered it because it's expensive in there. Now I'm no expert in this but I would recommend replacing the rings up front.

Good idea. How much do you think new rings could cost now that the engine is torn apart?

Rings come in sets, if they put them in the rear, then the front ones should cost nothing.

If you mechanic is any good, he wouldn't put the motor back together with old rings.

Any modding your looking at doing, now is the time, offset Key?????
