Yes, the piston has two rings, and an oil ring,

the oil ring, which is made of two more rings and a oil ring expander, just like in a car.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think when you buy a kit to rebuild, it's for the hole motor.

Maybe Kawa sell each seperate, so they can charge more, I'll have to dig out an old bill and see.

All the bearings, seals, front and rear rings and rear piston being replaced. Some 30+ parts. Kawasaki picking up the tab. Glad I had the extended warrenty. Hopefully it will be like a new bike. Should be done by this weekend.

With the new front and rear rings and new rear piston in, how should I break the engine in? Do I have to change the oil after 10 hrs?

Got my 650 back last week. Ran fine. Swing arm now making loud noise and seals on rear axle now leaking. Went I talked to Joe the owner of Angles World of Cycle. He made me a great offer on a new Prairie 700. I get to strip off all my mods except the pipe. I am picking it up this afternoon. I'm going to strip the 650 down in AM and return it to him Monday. I'm sooooo happy!!!

The axle leaks after a long time of sitting if you use your bike as much as me. If I let mine sit more than 2 weeks I spray around my axle... I think that helps. Probably your swing arm bearings are bad. Nice to see your dealer is taking care of you. My dealer helped me with mine but the bill still was over a $1000 can for my engine.... And I had the extended warrenty but they said that the 15000km was normal wear so the warrenty didn't cover it. What was your milage/ hours?

My 02 P650 also has a bad bearing and is making the same loud noise. It sucks, because I don't have the extended warranty and I don't want to spend $800+ to fix it. So I'm selling it cheap for $3500 OBO. The resale value of P650's really sucks. Good luck with youre's.
