I'm thinking of doing a swap that has not been done (that I know of). I'm considering a KLX650R engine in a 400EX frame. I just think it would be sweet. Does anyone here know what kind of performance that these engines were capable of? I already know what I'm going to need to do as far as the swap, so I don't need that info. Just performance and, if possible, exterior dimensions. I'm more concerned with engine height than anything, because they're pretty frikkin' tall. BTW, I'm not really interested in the V-Force, DS650, or Raptor because I want a unique, single-cyclinder, manual shift quad.

I have an '03 KLR 650... is that the same motor ?????

 

For the most part, those engines are the same. They share the same dimensions, just the internal components are slightly different (cam, piston, comp ratio, etc.). Plus, the KLX is a kick start, but the electric start components will bolt right up. Could you try to get some overall dimensions for me (length, width, and height)? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
