Default P700 / P650 tire questions

I was wondering if any Praire owners are running the Maxxis Bighorn tires (radials or bias ply) or the ITP ATR's? Any feedback on performance, extra weight, tread wear, etc...
I have a new P700 and what a unit- this machine can handle anything you put in front of it- and has heart pounding power! I am very impressed as this is my first kawasaki. Only wished manufactures had good rubber on them off the floor.

Any feed back will help.

GUZ... DIRTYWHITEBOY, just got a set... I don't think you'd be disapointed with any of the new radials coming out 4 - 5 all together... I'd personnally like to see more on the Carlise Badland radial, & the new Goodyear radial that is coming out on the new 650 AC...

I have a set of ITP ATR's, on the front... not as impressed as I thought I'd be with them...

DirtyWhiteBoy:
If you have October's issue of ATV Action look at page 12. Good Year has a camo tire (Mud Runner I think) they say it will be on an Artic Cat I assume the 650. Not sure if this is the tire your talking about. My P700 is camo, but I have a set of 589's.

I have a set of ATRs. I love the traction and ride. The sidewall flex is great also. BUT, today after my ride I noticed a wobble in the rear. It wasnt there Sunday when I rode. I havent done anything to bend the axles. Im going to get a buddy to ride behind me tomorrow to see if he sees anything. I just wonder if I have separated a belt? I hear no sound just viberation like an egg shape. It like it has a high spot on the tires.

This is only noticable on pavement running at speeds below 35-40.

Sometimes I wish I had bought the Maxxis All-Trax or Mudlites. Everyone likes the Big Horn radials but they are WAY to heavy for my type of riding.

Cleve- thanks for the input- went to your post and very helpful. I'm leaning towards the BH bias ply for the weight advantage- 78.6 lbs vs. 97lbs for the radials. My dealer gave me a price of $71/tire for the front and $77/tire for the rear. The ATR's are cheaper- $68.25/tire for front and $71.25/tire for rear and weigh 81.7lbs. I don't expect the ride on the bias ply to be as good as the radials, but they are still a 6 ply tire and look like a descent all around tire. I would expect them to be pretty smooth. The ATR's did get good reviews from ATV Magazine and ATV Action.

I had ATRs on my 02 P650. AWESOME tire IMO. They worked well in my area of operation. Not a great deep mud tire, but in every other condition they shined! If I buy another (700) Prairie, the ATRs will go on the machine before it ever goes into the woods! The stock tires are hideous. They will hurt you, if you try to ride aggressively in the woods.

I would think that they would be OK for running on any lawn, but a finely manicured one. The ATRs would be an expensive work tire. Is that all you'll do with the bike???? If so ,I could not recommend them. Maxxis and Titan and ITP make good tires. Check out their web sites, see what all they have. I bought my ATRs from www.bigbuckrack.com Great folks to deal with!.

trx450-
No- I mostly use for riding, but currently I pull a mower to cut the grass- (more fun than a garden tractor). I actually ran 589's on my old machine and if I wasn't making sharp turns I didn't tear up the yard. If I got on it though - forget aboutit. I'm getting descent prices from my dealer- just as good as any internet site including e-bay. e-bay does have some good deal on the mud lites if anyone is interested. Guz
