Default 03 P650 Thumb Throttle Position Adjustment

My question here is, is there a safe way to decrease the spring tension of the throttle return spring?
I filed off the locator pin that holds the throttle in position on the bar. I guess Kawasaki did this for safety to keep it from spinning but it sure was in an uncomfortable position for me. After doing this I tried as hard as I could, with gloves on, to spin it. It would not budge. I feel secrue that it won't.
I rotated it more under the bar and had to spin the brake lever a bit also. No problem. Much better but it still needs to loose some tension.

I hated my throttle lever, tried throttle extensions, which made it worse.
Finally made my own extension, fastned to the stock lever and shaped to move your
thumb toward the brake lever about 1 inch . Easy to make and much better,
at least for me, not near as likely to get unintended acceleration.

I will try to describe it better, I cut a piece of metal 3 1/2 inches long, 3/4 inches wide.
fastened it to back side of throttle lever with two tie wraps, it is then bent 90 degrees toward
brake lever for 3/4 inch and then bent 90degrees back to form a place for your thumb.
this takes the pressure off my thumb and I can reach the brake quicker because my hand
is already futher forward.
I rode in Colorado and Utah for 3 weeks and it worked great.
If you think you want to try this, PM me with your address and I will send you a cardboard pattern.

I tried an after-market thumb throttle extension and did get unintended acceleration, not a good thing when you are not ready for it,I like Oxygen's set-up!

I did install the twist throttle on my 650 ... I didn't get a chance to race it this weekend, but I rode it around my trails & liked it better... I'll let you know more later... WAM

Hey bfb650b2
Go ahead and post a picture if you want to.
This mod really is easier on your thumb and gives you better control,
especially if you don't have large hands

Thanks Oxygen
