Tecate 4 engine in kfx400 frame
#1
Has anyone else thought about trying this setup? The handling and suspension of todays frame with the punch of a two stroke powerplant. I first raised the question in the suzuki forum about ltz400 frame and lt250r engine. Seems to me that both of these setups would give the trx250r a run for its money in motocross and TT if not beat it with equal talent behind the throttle.

it sure sounds like a wonderful combination, newer, updated chassis, the power of a powervalved 2-stroke, not to mention the weight difference in motors. sounds like a hell of a combination to me

I am sure we'll never see a new two stroke quad from the big four. That shouldn't stop an aftermarket shop from tinkering with the idea. Unless they get incentives for pushing four stroke parts. I guess the fact that you have to spend more money on four strokes is enough incentive

Great idea- would be a reeal ripper. But, the big 4 are not making new 2-stroke compeptition/ sport quads anymore because come 2006 all 2- strokes will go the way of the Dinasaur. Thats right- no more, per EPA mandates. Sorry to be the bearer of less than enchanting news..

Hmmm, unless I totally misread the topic, this is WHY the man is desiring to put the custom bike together... I am not up to date on the new EPA rules or anything, but I am sure that you will still probably be able to compete with the bike at certain events like in certain geographical areas (no offense to people from this state or anything) California will probably be the first state in which one will not be able to ride or race the new ATV..... BUT, I am sure that alotta the Southern States that receive alotta oil/gas (natural resource $$) like Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and a few others will allow the competition of 2-stroke atvs within their turf when the law is passed.... I would definitely go for the transplant Tecate motor into the 400 frame.... afterall, it has ---->K.I.P.S.

The only reason I can see to do this is if you are into duning. Otherwise, why wouldn't you want to keep the excellent, powerful and very civilized 400 motor? The 400 has plenty of snap, is equal or better than the 250cc two stroke powerwise, and it can still putt along super tight, 1st gear trails, and it has reverse.
I wouldn't do it. But, if you have your heart set on a modern frame with a 250cc 2-stroke, check out This
