Bigger Tires on P650
I would like to put different tires on my 2003 P650.
I am leaning towards the 26 inch ITP mud lites. A friend recommended that I do not go larger than the stock 25 inch size as he says it will add stress to my cv joints/shafts causing damage as a result of changing the angles the shafts are on, as well as have significant power loss.
Can any of you guys who have changed to tire size indicate if you have suffered cv shaft damage as a result.
Also how significant is the loss of power ?

Tire size won't change any drivetrain angles, suspensions lifts do that. I'm running mudlites (27x10's up front and 27x12's in the rear), and notice some rubbing on the rear right against the fuel tank "shroud". This is on stock rims btw. As for power lose.....well...you can "tweek" things to gain most of it back, but you will loose some top end...I lost about 10Km's, but personally, i'd rather have tons of acceleration rather than top end anyday. I'm still completely happy with the acceleration and power the '03 650 affords, as she'll still break the rear end loose at 40-50 Kms/hr on a gravel road. One thing I have had to be careful with is gassing it hard in "bottomless" holes, as the mudlites will dig ya down pretty quick, and leave ya there hung-up, so an easy "feathering" of the throttle in situations like this is a must. I'm also not 100% satisfied with the rougher ride the mudlites give...but there's always drawbacks to 6 ply aggressive tires. It's much the same as running 35" MTR's on my Jeep CJ's, they'll tend to follow uneven terrain at higher speeds, but are nice when it comes to needing traction and clearance in certain situations. This is just my personal opinion on mudlites, so don't take it as gospel.

No damage with my 31" tires that I pull with.
larger, heavier tires will kill your RPM's, loosing speed and power, that can be brough back with clutch springs, clutch weights or clutch lightening.
Larger diameter tires will give you more top speed if you are clutched for them, with the power to turn them. they change you rear ratio.
