Default Twin Air vs K & N

Which air filter will be best for my 02 650? And will it help pick up any speed ?

I don't think the 02 K&N fits the airbox that great, and could leak. I had one but I greased the outside.

Foam filters trap dirt better than gauze anyway.

I bought the 03 airbox for my 02 and got a twin air. The airbox parts were around $100 total. That will give you more performance than an 02 twin air.

Make sure you put Diamond G's snorkle on too.

kawrules,
Like nyroc said, the k&n doesnt seem to fit too great. I was running a little rich before I put my twin air in I think and now I'm running great. The only thing is make sure the twin air fits in. if there are any gaps return it. my first one was a dud and had gaps all along the edge. the new one fit perfect

I think you would be hard pressed to tell a noticable "seat of the pants" difference in the two anyway.

Thanks for the tips, I just brought home the twin air I can't afford to do the trade out on the air box right now. What is the diamond G snorkle? Thanks once again.

Trailride, the 02 airbox clamps the K&N down tight everywhere except for the area right by the snorkle, where the lid only makes point cantact with the K&N filter in a few spots. It is NOT secure there.

Anyone using a K&N on their 02 650 without grease is either lucky to not suck dirt, has sufficient faith to miraculously keep dirt out, or is sucking dust into the engine. It doesn't fit well. Take a second look at the airbox. You will be disapointed with your 02 K&N.

The amount of dirt that can get through it is probably really small, I wouldn't trust my engine to that 02 K&N. I already got rid of that it. Bad seal.

So this twin air will work fine then? And I still need to get a snorkle from Diamond G? Whats the cost of the snorkle?

My Twin-Air seals up very very very tight. You will be well pleased with it. You have to push the edges down into the airbox its so tights.
