i just got my engine back from my friend. i bought the quad with engine problems. My buddy tore the engine completely down and rebuilt it. We had to replace 2 kickstarter gears, input shaft, output shaft 2 shift forks, and 7 other gears.

anyways, my problem is this:
when i bought the quad the kickstarter lever sprung all the way back to the top after pushing it down, likes its supposed to. Now when you push it down and bring it up it gets stuck like 4 inches away from the top. you can manually push it all the way back up, but it doesnt have the spring back anymore. My buddy also has a 87 mojave that had the kickstarter gears replaced and his does the same thing. anyone know whats up??????

Sounds like maybe not enough preload on the return spring. Never had one apart but I would imagine that there is a coil spring that isn't wound up enough.
