Have any of you guys with V-Forces raced any Z's? Just wondering if I am a lot faster or just a little? He did order an intake for it but it won't be on until spring. Thanks guys.

Mac...

What kind of race? If it's on a MX track, you have your work cut out for you. Is your V stock? When my V was stock, I raced a Z on a 300 ft drag and won by about a quad and a half. When we took them to a MX track, I soon discovered that the Z400 turns much quicker and it was all I could do to keep up.

My V is stock but it seems to be a "runner". I raced my buddy with a pipped Banshee and only lost by about 1.5 - 2 lenghts in 300ft. We opened them up for about 1/3 to 1-2 mile on a old air strip and he only beat me by 5 lengths. I though Banshees were faster than that. I destroyed a nice 250R in about 500ft. My buddy with the Z is a big "drag guy" so I suppossed that is what we will do. I suck on a tight track so I don't want to go there.

Mac..

If you want some "insurance" for your race, you might want to invest in a stiffer primary spring. I have tried the epi pink but am much happier with the hpd plain. For only around $20 bucks, you really cant go wrong.

HPD PLAIN SPRING................$20

The look on your buddies face when you totally destroy his Z400...............Priceless

Do you have a part number for the HPD plain? Thanks.

My son has a yoshi pipe and K&N on his z400 and he is still beating me in a drag race in the sand....

I am still stock, except for a pink spring, and I don't have sand tires yet and he runs haulers.

I know this is coming into play here. I need sand tires to really be close to even in the sand, but I'll tell you it was a little disappointing. I'm going to pipe it when I can afford it (do you think the cheaper HMF pipes are sufficient?), perhaps add some shims to the pink or try the hpd plain spring. I'm going to look at the "ram" air and K&N as well...

I suspect when I get done I will beat him, but his bike does well right now.

I have a lot more cc's, but it is heavier and I weigh 255, myself... so I have to compensate.

We don't get on the dirt much, as he prefers the sand and hates the "rocks and roots". I don't mind them. Eventually I'll run him in the dirt and smoke him!

I do like this bike and when I ride his or others... I don't miss shifting at all.

Take care.
Joe

WHILE I AGREE THE SPRING IS A GOOD OPTION ... THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT... SHORTLY AFTER INSTALLING A 750 KIT IN MY '02 PRAIRIE ... A FACTORY POLARIS DRIVER ON A PREDITOR, MADE THE MISTAKE OF EGGING ONE OF MY BUDDIES ON MY ( NOW 750 PRAIRIE ), TO A DRAG... AFTER THE PREDITOR GOT THOURGHLY SMOKED, DAN ASKED HIM, IF HE WANTED TO GO 2 OUT OF 3 ... THE PREDITOR DECLINED

Dragon,

Racing in the sand without paddles is like bringing a knife to a gun fight--you can't expect to even compete with bikes that are running them. My V has Pro Circuit duals and a Dynojet kit with airbox mods--I have yet to see a 400 with normal mods (Pipe, jet kit, filters) to come even close. The Raptors, Banshees, and YFZs give me fits, but after my clutch is tuned perfect I think the V will leave them in the dust as well. Once you start toying with exhaust, intake, and jetting on this motor, it comes alive and is amazing. After you mod your V and get some Skat-Traks, your son will wonder where the "yellow" went.

I dont think knobbies vs haulers is a fair race in the sand. The one with paddles with always win, ragardless of what it is.
