Default Do any of you know??????

I will be putting a V Force clutch cover on my 700 Prairie, when doing so I will be elimiting the engine braking system. With the engine braking system unplugged, everything works but the dash flashes between 2wd and 4wd. Which wires need to be crossed to stop this or do you know of any other ways to do this other than hooking the wires back up? Thanks!!

i know this will be asked so ill be the one who does... why are you puting a v force cover on your prairie?you might want that engine braking

We race this thing and I'm going to lighten it up a bit, the engine brake is not needed. If you have the clutchs engaged the engine and tranny will slow you down just as the V Force does. If more braking is needed then we will have to use the front and rear brakes. Also, I just got the Dalton drive clutch plate and I'm leaving the braking bearing out when I install the cover. We have raced it with the engine brake unplugged to see what it would be like and we liked it much better! Now before anyone asks, when I say we I mean, I own the quad, I build the quad, and I ride it but I have 3 other guys who actually do the racing.

I'm a mechanic by trade and have worked for a Yamaha dealer and had my own cycle repair shop. Now I work full time for a Bobcat Skidloader dealer and work nights playing with quads. I hope my previous post here did not sound rude, as I re read it it kinda does,,, I did not mean it to, just explaining what I'm trying to do!

PW,
The only time the braking system comes into effect is at low rpm settings. Cutting and connecting the wires will reset the actuator. I have removed my bearing some time ago for racing purposes you will get more top end without the bearing installed the pressure exerted by the braking spring is conciderable. It will act like a V force for braking untill you reach idle. If you are concerned about cutting wires you can remove the spring assembly leaving the actuator attached this way you will not get any false readings plus you will get more top end. Hey I will be out of comission after monday for a few days LOL. Time to get that puppy together before it snows LOL.

Alltoys,
I didn't realize that the engine braking system had an effect on top-end. Please explain why removal of the actuator's spring assemply (I assume thats the spring that is attached to the "fork" on the inside of the CVT cover?) will result in more top-speed and approximately how much more top-speed do you think it will result in (on a stock P650 for example).

Mikey,
You may get close to 2 - 3 mph of top end plus a better take off it only stands to reason that friction plays a part in performance remove friction or at least small drgree and you will gain all around. The spring exerts a good deal of pressure against the bearing on the face plate at all times, lesser amount as the clutch speeds up but because it is a spring will always put pressure against the bearing. The actuator exerts a greater amount of pressure as the motor returns close to idle this stops the Prairie from free wheeling down a slop as the V would in the same curcumstance. If you wish to go down a hill without the actuator hooked up then blip the throttle as you would with the V Force your speed will be faster than normal although still controllable.

Alltoys is right about the speed gains, him and I have discussed this before! I did some speed runs with my old 650 when I had it, 3 runs with the brake hooked up and 3 with it unplugged! The distance I ran it was from the stop sign to the neighbors mailbox! LOL!!! I never actually measured it but what I did find out was that the 3 runs with the engine brake unplugged were about 4 to 5 mph faster!

Alltoys, I have already ordered a V Force clutch cover, I now need to take the time to see what wires I have to cross to get the 2wd 4wd light to stop flashing back and forth after I unplug the engine brake.
