650 eating rad fluid?
#3
Thats exactly what mine was doing(P 650). Come to find out it
was a blown head gasket , the second piston only. I had overheated it
once this summer in a mud run.Got too much mud in the rad and my
instrument display was covered in mud. When I noticed the temp
light was on ,it was too late the dammage was done. I found out
that the 650 V-Twin engine head gaskets can't take overheating
at all cause they let go . Can't take the heat. So I replaced the temp
sensor for the dummy light(overheat warnning light) with a 15$ temp
guage so now I can monitor the motor temp , and also put a bypass
switchon the fan so I can put it on any time I want . It can still go on
automatically if I forget to flick the switch. Never overheated since .
Noticed she was getting hot the other day ; found out the fuse was
shot for the fan. If it were'nt for the guage , Iwould'nt have noticed
untill the dummy light would have lit. The dealer told me to put a
15 Amp fuse instead of the stock 10 Ampfuse ; they've had some
problems with blowing 10 Amps for the fan.

I have the fan switch as well... never blew a fan fuse before. My oil pump broke and I think I caught it quick enough because I constantly watch for both indictors.. and now I'm wondering if I caught it in time. Taking her to the doctors tommorrow. Please send a PM or something to let me know here you hooked the temp gauge up... make and serial number.
