Default FYI - P650 cam worn out

Saw a new one at the dealer the other day - a 650 had a tapping noise in the front of the engine when hot and under a load. The tech tore the front cylinder down and found the cam to be completely worn out. It was almost to the point of being round instead of having lobes. The oil journals weren't plugged and the rocker arms weren't worn, so we chaulked it up to poor metallurgy (sp?). Just for your information.

Default FYI - P650 cam worn out

On 02's and maybe some early 03's there were bad cams and oil pump failures. Never heard of both on same unit. Rome GA dealer got a P650 in on the cams and the new set wore down too, it happend pretty fast. If you have several hours on yours it's probubly OK. The next set was a much deeper blue\black in coloration. It has been OK.
