Fullthrottle, Reds650,
Harley fires as you know at 45* where as Kawi is at 270* not even close. The Harley is cam fired the same thing goes with kawy to adapt a crank fired pickup system the mounting of the pickups must be fabricated. The machine that comes close to the kawy is the Ducati V twin without any major problems of hook up. There are other ignitions out there but they are not easy adapted.

Fullthrottle,
Check out on past posts like " Ultimate Ignition" and " Ulitimate Ignition Revisited" These will give you some idea of what is needed to adapt another ignition to the Kawi. It is almost impossible to mount a cam fired ignition on the kawy the case would have to be cut open to expose the cam wheel and so on a lot of work. I am not trying to thwart your ideas you are asking the perfect question check the former posts you will find it interesting.

750 Spec sheet
ENGINE 749cc, Liquid cooled, 4-stroke, V-twin, 8-valves, DOHC, rubber
mounted
DISPLACEMENT 749cc
BORE X STROKE 84.9 x 66.2mm
COMPRESSION RATIO 10.3:1
this is a honda 750 but i don't know how to find out if it fires at 270*. ive done tons of reading and i can,t figure out how to figure out what degree the other machines fire at.
what i was thinking was find out what type ignitor we have on v and then find a programable ignition for something else that has same ignitor and use that for complete ignition. our ignitor and there programmer. i've found lots of programable igns. but got to figure out how other bikes, quads, sleds and whatever fires like ares. i've emailed alot of different companys but don't get many replies. alot of this has already been mentioned here and other threads but with all this reading i feel the need to share. lets not give up. this can be done.

What would be a maximum safe rev-limit ?
Isn't the stock Prairie650 set at 8500?

Would 10,000 be too high?

Schl48,
Amost any crank fired ignition will work I have had 3 different models on my Prairie along with the V Force. You can install a 2 separate single engine ignitions if you use 2 pickups and one reluctor wheel. You can use a 4 cylinder system with one pickup and reluctor wheel but all these have to mounted on to the crank where the pull start is. This means you will lose your pull start mechanism most people do not like this idea. If it were easy to reinstall a different cdi from another machine believe me I would have done it a long time ago. You can install the CDI from the V force but it still limits the rpm so there is no real advantage. My philosophy is if you are going to modify it then go all the way. I have 2 systems that are totaly programable and will never go back to the OEM system, once you feel the benefits of a decent system there is no going back.

BrilliantBloke,
Kawi engineers say 12,000 rpm is the blow apart rpm I have had my old P650 to 11,500 rpm with no ill effects. It produces its best power between 9200 and 9500 rpm with heavier valve springs. 10,000 - 11,000 rpm is a lot of fun!!!!!

okay, i don't have a pull start so i don't care about that. now if i buy a fully programmable 4 cyl ignition ign and it works on the ignitor like whats on the v force will it work . the timing starts with my ignitor so as long as thats the same we should be ok. correct ?
