Alright listen to me.
Going from an 8:1 compression ratio to say 10 or 11:1 will improve power slightly.
Going from 11:1 to 11.5 or even 12:1 wont make much difference.
Once you get past 11:1 any power incease due to compression is neglagable.
Personally I don't think it's worth your time and money to increase the compression according to elevation.

Thanks for the illustration, chris- I'm looking for increase in compression because I'm fixin' to move to the high country, 7,000 ft+. Also I am going up in camshaft and so fourth. I just purchased a KLR CDI box which has no rev limiter, so at higher RPM's there is less time for making cylinder pressure and hence my reasoning for additional compression.

compression will make a significant difference in power and the more you have the more power you will get, BUT when go past 11:1 you will need racing gas. Are sure sure you want to pay the price of race gas all the time. I did put a 11.5 wiseco in one of my mojaves and with a big cam that bleeds of pressure you can get by just barely with 93 octane pump gas.

Hmm-- that close to the edge on 11:1 as it is.... OK, 'addict- how about 11.5:1 piston, premium gas with a bottle of ctane booster thrown in- I'm goin' to the high country so I'm thinkin' that I should be able to get away with that, goin' with the .380 cams, but say I don't make it- can I add another gasket then to bring the compression down, or is there a think gasket out there? Thanks
