Default z400 vs kfx700

Well I have a slightly mod'd KFX 400 (see sig block) and my buddy has a stock KFX 700 (until recently) and we ride at about 5300 feet. We walked out the door at the same time with the quads...I paid for my quad and the mods outlined below and came in about 500 under what he paid for the stock 700. Mine was $6150 to include tax and mods...his was like 6740 for just the quad and tax.

Before i put the mods on my 400 he would beat mine from line to finish...constantly pulling away....after mods he never really lined up to drag...but as we were out riding i could catch him rather easily. He encounters a wall at about 45 mph were he picks up acceleration alot slower then when approaching that speed...thing halls tail until 45 mph. He has added a simple clutch spring that did alot in minimizing that wall feeling at 45. He has also put on yosh pipes and an air intake soon...so I am sure he will be wanting to line up again. Once someone truly figures out the clutching on this machine and how to tweak...it will be even more of a beast ... they can do it to snowmobiles why not the V.

Now as far as which one to get...totally dependent on how you ride. Trials without a doubt the V. Sand and track I like my KFX 400 better. Lighter and more nimble machine seems to play better in the sand. Both jump well but in all honesty the 400 is a better jumper. The same advantages it has in the sand it also has on the track. The 700 does well...but my KFX 400 is better suited and seems do better than the bigger quad in these environments. Track and GNCC type racing/riding the 700 is the machine to have. Ground Clearance is great for a sport quad...strong reliable power plant...handles well especially once you understand the automatic...has great torque and acceleration...can jump and play with the best...automatic is great . I have a P650 and it is a GREAT trail machine...700 is only better.

You cant sell the 700 short because its an automatic or a big SPORT quad...it will surprize you. Then again, you mod that z400 right and get the jetting nailed and you cant sell it short either. Have seen a mod'd KFX 450 (Yoshi kit i believe he said) run against a mod'd 700...no contest what so ever as the KFX 450 smoked it...that KFX 450 beat two YZ's in a drag that day as well...fact is the top three quads at the local mx race track are two KFX 450s, and a Z440 (riders play a huge part i am sure)...now when you do engine work it is only going to be as good as those that do it...so i have no doubt the guy in the previous post beating a 440...but dont be expecting to beat to many mod'd KFX 450, or a YZ's for that matter, if you do purchase the 700. The 450s have to many ponies and to little weight and its not realistic...well not until someone masters the V's clutching and can get more ponies to the wheels...that power plant has it...trick is getting to it.

I have a p650 already in my stable and that is why I chose the KFX 400 over the KFX 700. I wanted it for just when i rode sand and track. But if I didnt have the P650 or had to have just one quad it would be the V-Force hands down over any other quad (including 450r or YZ). Very versatile quad with power and potential. Just my opinion...cant lose either route you go.

Ive ridden just about everything under the sun. It seems like everybody I know has a different bike.
I have the 700 of course and bought the Elka suspension last week for my first big mod.
Its rediculous now.
I live in washington we have tons of trees. The 700 and trees dont mix very well. I think its slightly overrated in the woods until you get suspension.
have you seen one in contention on GNCC TV? No. I have seen 400s in contention. Woods racers need to be light and nimble.
The 700 tends to power through your mistakes then it lulls you to sleep due to the automatic and you will crash. but Its the strongest bike Ive ever seen.

If you buy a bike, it should be between a 700, YFZ or TRX.
My personal opinion.

The V-Force has the fun factor over all.

In snow the V-force will be more fun and go better (stock for stock) than the 400 because of the auto tranny and that the 400 only has 20" rears. Which is more fun really depends on what you do and where you ride. For jumps, whoops, wheelies, sliding, etc, the 400 is better, but if you are not as aggressive than the V-force would be fun. In my eyes the V-force is more of a cruiser while the 400 is a sport bike.

vforces love to flip....my friend got one, we rode up a hill and he started to accelerate fast, flipped the bike and went downhill, i think they overdid the vforce, if you really want a good quad get a yfz450 or a raptor. im not bashin vforce riders, i even wanted to buy one, later

That sounds more like rider error. If you give allot of throttle to any high powered quad in the middle of a hillclimb, the front will start to come up. A little more so with the V due to the auto. I think any good rider can keep it on the ground though. My 2 cents.
