Question for ALLTOYS
I was wondering if you had heard of anyone attempting to connect a timing control box to the Prairie's CDI. I am referring to the one offered by MSD, for auto ignitions. I have one sitting on the shelf and was just wondering if that could be wired in. On this unit you can advance or retard iginition timing (around 10 degrees)via a variable resistor. Isn't that what the holeshot module does, but only at the lower RPM's?

the holeshot doesn't technically advance the timing. All it does is fool the CDI into thinking it is going about 10mph faster than it is.....thus the CDI fully advances the timing to 28*.
the have been two lengthy treads discussing ingintions for the p650. if i'm not mistakin they are titled "ultimate ignition" and "ultimate ignition revisited". try searching for it.
good luck hope i helped a little

Question for ALLTOYS
CF&B,
I am not sure of the system you describe I will have a look see later on to get a better understanding of the device. For the interm do you know if the unit works on digital or analog type signals this is a major factor before you deside to hook it up. I beleive the cdi reads analog, changes it to digital then dumps back out as analog to the coils. Do you know what the retail price of the unit just for comparison thanks?

Question for ALLTOYS
CF&B,
Since you say the unit reads a signal off the MSD ignition I would beleive the cdi already has the signal from the pickup. The unit then hooks up to the ignition, chances are this unit will not work for our system because the unit will read a tach signal from the cdi. It will take the interupted signal from the cdi and reintroduce into the system producing a modified timing curve. If it could read a raw pickup signal it would probably work if that were the case. I would have second thoughts on using it on our cdi not that it would be impossible there needs to be more investigation to be sure. A cdi can be expensive to replace trust me I have cooked 3 cdi's playing around.
