starter on a 2000 bayou 220

The starter on my new 220 that i've had for like 6 months is totally messed. If 4-wheeler hasnt ran for like 15 min, the nutral indicator dosent come on all the way, but you can see a faint light, and the starter dosent even make a sound, but after I ride it for like 20 min, the nutral indicator will come on and be just normal and the starter will work, but here's the kicker, sometimes the nutral indicator will work, but as soon as i push the button to start it, the light goes out and the starter makes a real quick sound like its gonna go but as soon as the light goes out it just dont work. I kno its not the battery cause if i turn the key I can turn on the headlights and they are as bright as they would be if the thing was running. i personnally think there is a short in the wiring somewhere or the safty switch that dosent let the electric start work while its in gear is bad. But i can pull start it and it runs then, does anyone have any idea bout what this thing is doing?????? Thanks for any help at all.

The connections are tight, like i said the headlights work, and i checked the fuse and its fine. I think im just gonna take the friggin thing in to the dealer, cause the brakes stopped workin in april and they wont adjust so i think they need to be like replaced or sumthing I just delt with it till now cause it added a lil extra to the ride......

I hear feel your pain! My wife's brand new 220 was doing the exact same thing. Then it started dying on her constantly, I pulled the seat off to check out the battery connections..etc.. and the wiring harness that runs to the battery had bare wires showing thru.
We took it back to a different Kawasaki dealer(closer to home) and they said it was an assembly mistake. The harness should run thru a groove on the left side of the plastic. They said sometimes when they are put together that the assembler forgets and lays it across the air intake....then the rubbing from the seat wears through your harness.
They replaced the harnes and zip tied it into place and the thing runs pretty darn goo now. My only frustration is that sometimes when u punch it to take off it dies....we'll deal with that soon.
Good Luck
