P650 lower crankcase noise
#1
I just got a new P650, and I really like it, but it's making a knocking noise coming from the crankcase. It is pretty loud when it's cold, and I can still hear it a little when it's warmed up. This is all happening in nuetral. Is this normal?

If it is only when idleing and more to the right side it's a good chance it it the drive clutch. To get rid of it you have to change the slide buttons that are between the spider and the sheeve. There is a little too much clearance there and the drive sheeve is the cause for the knock.

Even though it's new it needs new buttons????
My P-650 has the same noise and did so when I got it with 56 miles on it. I was also worried about it knocking, but have learned to ignore it figuring it was just one of the lovely noises coming from the CVT.
Should I be worried?

AFTER ABOUT 4MONTHS MINE HAD A WICKED NOISE COMING FROM THE SAME AREA. SOUNDED LIKE A ROD KNOCK . ESPECIALY WHEN COLD. I BROUGHT IT IN UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WAS THE CLUTCH SLIDES. THE TERM USED WAS WAY OUT OF SPEC.

The buttons are how you set the clearance on the clutch slide. Standard clearance is over 0 to 0.0047 in. There are 9 different thickness buttons to set the correct clearance. It doesn't have to be much over spec to get the knocking noise. The noise you will hear when it gets too much clearance sounds like a rod knock.
