top end engine noise ? valves have been adjusted and machine starts and runs great.
engine is quiet from cold start to about 15 minutes of normal use. after that it starts a top end ticking noise. not destruction iminent noise, but just annoying. it goes away at higher revs. it is worse after a hot shutdown, then a restart soon there after. ticking developed slowly over the course of six months. no engine mods, and machine was not beat or poorly maintained.
anyone had a 360 with these symptoms? I am thinking bad cam bearing, valve guides, cam itself? maybe i should just not worry about it. it is noticeable, but not worth a tear down yet.
thanks for the ideas.

thanks 03p360. i have the same winch as you and run the epi black spring. all my other power toys have been 2 strokes. the 03 p360 is my first 4 stroke. kinda bummed by that ticking noise, but i can live with it for now. it will probably run fine for the next 10 years always making that noise. just wanted to see if anyone else had the sound too.

Although it's a different engine, my KLR-650 dual sport makes a lot of worrisome noise, too. Especially after I ride it for a long time at high RPMs. After 35,000 miles and one major crash into a deer, I've come to realize Kawasaki makes a pretty good motor, even if it does make strange noise. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I don't even really notice it anymore. It's there if I actually listen for it but I've ignored it so long that durring normal riding I don't even hear it. As for the winch, its a lifesaver when you need it but make sure you give it a few breaks when you are doing a heavy pull. Mine is making some grinding noise because I overloaded it and it got real hot while I was trying to pull a sportsman out of thick weedy mud. Otherwise Its great and so is the machine. Hope you have lots of fun with your like I have been.
