You need to put in the spring (and new belt?), put it back together, then measure deflection again to see if you need to add or take away a shim or two. Don't tighten the nut all the way to the 69 ft-lb until you get within the deflection spec. You may have to do this procedure more than once to get into spec.

I started changin my spring out today. Couldn't break the nut loose, went and got a cheater pipe for tomorrow morning, will try to break it loose again then. BTW, I'm installing a P700 belt on my P650 since it has more beef to it.

I am following Nyroc's procedure found at: ATV Power. Good luck.

I stopped by the local dealer a couple days ago and asked about a price on the P700 belt. The guy told me $70.00. This seemed a little on the cheap side (not that I don't like cheap) so I had him check it again. He came back with the same price.

I was going to order one, but I'm still waiting for my belt light to come on. I'm at just about 102 hours and still no light.

I got a 650 belt for 69 dollars. My 100 hour light never came on. The belt started coming apart at full speed and I lost all my power. I'm going out of town to ride Tellico this coming weekend and the dealer said it would be a couple of weeks before they could get too it. I didn't know anything about this belt the 100 hour light or the black spring, until I found this site. I now have the spring and a the belt went on the other day and was in adjustment without doing anything. The teeth in the old belt started coming apart and it flipped the switch. I flipped it back, slid on the new belt and I was back in the seat. I will say, I found some light reset procedures and mine was different from what it said to do. I looked for the two 5-pin connectors to cross the black\gray wires. I have a 5-pin connector and a 6-pin connector with 5 wires. Both located under the shifter. Didn't look like what I was needing. I later discovered that if you disconnect the 6-pin 5 wire connector, the dash lights go out but you have full power again. This is good because you never break down some place convenient. I was way out and when the light goes off or the switch is flipped you can go about 7 miles an hour. I going to put the new spring in now and re-check the belt today. The only thing left is to get a someone's module wired in and let that baby go.

You can use the p700, p650 or p360 belts on your 650. The 700 and 360 belts are beefier. All 3 belts are the same price - about $70.

I installed the 700 belt and black spring today. The deflection on my old 650 belt indicated I should reduce shims by about 1 mm. What I found in mine was one 1.4mm shim, so removed that and put in a .6mm. This resulted in a reduction of 0.8mm.

The point of all this is the belt is real tight now and squeals a little in gear at idle. Squeal goes away as soon as you touch the gas. I rode it today and am already used to it. It might have worried me, but Nyroc says this idle squeal will go away after some miles and the belt will last a really long time.

I didn't order any shims yet.........I wonder where you get them and how much they are? I did price a 700 belt at my dealer yesterday and he said 69.00 for either the 650 or 700 belt but he didn't have either one in stock. that is cheap compared to the last one I bought at 89.00..............Dave

I got them from the dealer. They were 5 dollars apiece and I got three different sizes. With what’s already there and what I bought I should have enough. I was going to put my new belt in yesterday but the temp dropped into the 30's and the funding for my garage hasn't made it to finale approval. I can here people reading this now, 30 degrees, it was 80 on Monday. You got to love the south's winter wonder land.
