Default Low Gear Linkage on an '02 P650

I need some help with my linkage. I know I need to adjust it, but I am not sure how to go about it. I can shift into low and it stays. I can give it some throttle and it will go, but when I let off the throttle, I knocks/clanks like it is trying to slip out of low gear....it doesnt, but it is trying. How do I adjust it to take care of this?

You need to adjust the link that goes from the bottom of the shifter to the tranny. It's been so long since I did it that I can't remember whether it needs to go longer or shorter. A trick to get it set right is to put the machine in reverse with the key on, adjust the link until the reverse light goes out, and then turn the link the other way until the light just barely comes back on. That usually gives a perfect set-up.
