Default Flywheel Timing Advance Key

For all of you running the flywheel key, How dependable has it been? I'm hearing there is a 6* & a 10* out there and wondering what key would you recommend (I trail ride mostly) and what additional mods would you recommend while installing flywheel timing advance key. I already have aftermarket cams and the rest of the common performance mods in my signature block. .

One thing to be aware of with advanced timing keys: They are offset to give this advance, which weakens them. I have put one in each of my kid's Blasters. One failed right away, and one still works one year later. If they shear, your timing retards and you hopefully keep running & sputtering long enough to get to the truck. Then you scratch your head for a weekend trying to figure out what's wrong if you're slow like me.

Sounds like you own one mean A$$ machine!! My machine gives me white knuckles.

I can only imagine having 100cc's more. Bet you've had to learn how to steer using the rear wheels

Have you had any problems with the the 6*key working itself free, breakage, & why did you select the 6* instead of the 10* timing key. Did the key solve the top end power slump from 50 to 65MPH?. Looking at my signature block what mods would you definately make?

The big thing with advance keys is that they are offset, which makes them weaker than a straight key. If you install one, you need to make SURE that the flywheel and crankshaft are clean, debris fee, and oil free. Also make sure that when you assemble the flywheel to the crank, it is tightned to the proper torque. If you dont have a torque wrench, the go for an air impact, impact hammer, or other suitable method to make SURE it is good and tight and WILL not loosen under engine vibrations causing the weakend key to shear.

advance timing also requires a MUCH richer main jet. the mixture is burned more completely resulting in the need for more feul.
