P650 ENGINE BRAKING
While riding about 45mph(top speed in low) down a snowy/icy back road the other day in 2wd I had to suddenly let off the throttle. The bike started fish-tailing like crazy because the rear tires had slowed so much they were sort of skidding like I had the rear brake on. Is this to be expected from the KEBC or is something broke? The bike's behavior scared the bejeebers out of me. It was hard to control
the slide until I touched the throttle again. I did'nt think the KEBC was supposed to work above like 12 mph??
Thanks for the replies.

My 650 didn't do this but my 700 does.... I thinking it's more a clutch thing than engine brake. I notice that you are on an 02? I guessing a late 02. You have to give it gas to pull back in control or use 4x4. I'm guessing on if the belt doesn't disengage quick enough this happens. Now keep in mind that if you are crusing at 20 or so down hill it's not just engine KEBC that slows you down, the clutches are still engaged. After you get use to it's ok and you shouldn't have a problem it's the first time that gets you off gaurd. As i was typing I just noticed you are in low range and that's the reason. You will find highrange much better. I found the 650 and 700 when you are useing low you need 4x4. If you want to use low when you want to slow down just let off the gas a little slower or apply the front brakes before letting of the gas.

Thanks Kawi650. I guess under the right circumstances, it's a normal response. Icy road, 2wd, low range at full speed means don't let off the throttle fast ! I will ride in 4wd and/or high range under those types of conditions from now on whether I need the traction of 4wd or not.
Thanks for the reply!
